The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Operations, and the guidance of the Director of Technical Operations, the Engineer Superintendent contributes to the company’s growth by providing day-to-day leadership to Engineering watchkeepers and in collaboration with the Technical Team. They work to manage resource allocation, provide subject matter expertise, and engage with multi-departmental initiatives to enhance business goals while promoting a culture backed up by corporate values.

To apply you must have ALL of the following minimum requirements:

▪ Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Second Class Engineer CoC, or a related Engineering field of study .

▪ OR Trade/Technical School in marine technical, electrical, or ship construction.

▪ 5 years of supervisory experience of technical/unionized employees (over 10 people).

▪ A total work experience in the Marine Industry of minimum 10 years.

▪ Must: Marine Safety, engineering, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

▪ Preferred: Canadian marine regulations, Classification Societies, and Basic Labour Relations experience in supervising a unionized workforce.

▪ Preferred: Project Management, dispute management.

▪ Must: Excellent Computer Skills. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, and experience using and supervising others using a Planned Maintenance platform.

▪ Must be able to travel within Canada by air.

▪ Must be legally allowed to work in Canada.

▪ Must have a valid BC Driver's License.

Some of the Job functions for this role will be:

▪ Oversees and directs the day-to-day work of Engineers by providing subject matter expertise and human resources guidance to guarantee the reliability of the vessels, the availability of the employees, and the promotion of a positive workplace culture.

▪ Collaborates with the Technical Team through interaction and feedback from the Technical Superintendents to ensure employees work together to maintain assets and fulfill their duties and responsibilities in alignment with company values and safety standards.

▪ Communicates with crew members and follows up on maintenance requests to improve technical understanding while incorporating safety standards, and collective agreement clauses.

▪ Supervises Engineering crews throughout the employee lifecycle including onboarding, performance evaluations, training, mentoring, and assessments to promote an emotionally healthy and physically safe work environment to oversee the employee experience, including recruitment and onboarding processes.

▪ Collaborates with SHEQ with training, investigating, or auditing as required to ensure regulations are followed and safety standards are maintained as part of our daily safety culture.

▪ Follows up and reports on Engineers’ job completion, daily activities, close-out progress, working times, etc. to Dispatch, Superintendents, and Managers as required to guarantee timely job and process completion, collaboration, and understanding of policies, procedures, and agreements.

▪ Acts as a Technical or Operations superintendent to support peers during projects and incident responses to guarantee on-scene availability for operational and technical management.

▪ Reacts to change productively to undertake other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
