Education

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Occupational Certification
Candidates must have a valid Canadian certificate of competency with STCW endorsement (or Canadian Navy equivalent) in one of the following disciplines:
- Master, Near Coastal.
- Second-class Engineer (motor ship, steamship or combined).
OR
College Diploma in Naval Architecture.
*Please note that proof of a valid certificate or diploma must be presented.
Experience
Experience as Master or Chief Engineer on ships
OR
Experience in the technical or operational management or inspection of ships
OR
Experience in the design or construction of ships.
Conditions of Employment
Requirements that a person must meet or comply with for as long as they occupy the position.
Other Conditions of Employment

1. Meet the Occupational Health Assessment (Periodic III).
2. Possess a valid driver’s license in Canada.
3. Agree to deploy to accident sites where there may be exposure to disagreeable and difficult working conditions and to extreme climatic conditions.
4. Agree to respond and travel on short notice during and after normal working hours and on statutory holidays.
5. Agree to travel within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, ship and air.
6. Willingness to be available on standby, on a rotational basis.
7. Willingness to undergo TSB required training.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, pisses me off more then when French trumps 30-35 years technical experience.
Talk about limiting the pool of candidates. Basically what this says is you speak French? Oh good, we'll settle for the rest.

So to get in the pool, you have to be bilingual BBB/BBB (which means fluent in Quebecois)
